LIMESTONE COUNTY 2016 EQIP PROGRAM

 

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation (NRCS) in Limestone County, Alabama, will hold a sign up for the Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) for the 2016 Fiscal Year. The sign up will be held on a continuous basis. Any eligible land user who has a resource concern or problem on Pastureland, Cropland, Forestry Land/Wildlife, or Hay may apply for assistance through this program.

The USDA Work Group held a meeting and decided to prioritize the resource concerns in Limestone County as the following:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Erosion/Soil Quality
  3. Water Quality/Animal Waste
  4. Irrigation Water Management (water efficiency)
  5. Forest Health and Wildlife

 

All applicants will be ranked using an environmental benefits worksheet and approvals will be given to the applicants that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points until all funds are obligated. All unfunded applications can be deferred for next year’s signup if applicant chooses to move application forward.

 

Applications will be batched and ranked. The first batching of applications will have a cutoff date of October 16th, 2015. Another batching period will be announced if additional funds become available.

 

All practices, restrictions, limits (except as below) and payment rates will be the same as in the Alabama NRCS state approved EQIP practices and payment schedule.

 

The Limestone County USDA Work Group set limits for financial assistance on the following practices:

  • Financial assistance for the installation of or clean out of a pond or earth fill dam, will not be available in the county.
  • Pasture Spraying – (315) (Herbaceous weeds) for 2 years - $4690.00 per contract
  • Pasture Planting – (512) $7215.00 per operation per contract.
  • Tree Planting – (612) Hardwood/Pine $6960.00 per operation
  • Site Prep – (490) - $3700.00 per operation per contract

 

Limited Resource, Socially Disadvantaged and New and Beginning Farmer applicants may be funded at a higher program payment rate.
