DeKalb County 2016 EQIP Program
Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in DeKalb County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2016 Fiscal Year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis. Any eligible landuser who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, hayland, forestland, or wildlife land may apply for assistance through this program.

The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in DeKalb County as:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Water Quality/Animal Waste
  3. Soil Quality/Erosion
  4. Forest Health and Wildlife

All applications will be ranked using the NRCS ranking tool and approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e. those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated. The first batching period for ranking and prioritizing applications will be October 16, 2015.  Any applications received after this date will be considered in the next pool of funding, if funds become available.

DeKalb County will use the Alabama NRCS state approved EQIP Practice and Payment Schedule.


  • Pasture Planting/Renovation ---(512)   $6,000
  • Tree planting ---(612) $4,000
  • Tree/Shrub Site Preparation (490)--$5,300
  • Prescribed Burning (338)--$983
  • Heavy Use Area Protection  (561)---Pay at the rate for geotextile and crushed stone for the HUA feeding pads.  If landowner wants concrete they would have to pay the cost difference.  Concrete would still be used for HUA under Watering Facility.
  • Amendment For Treatment of Waste (591)—Will not offer as practice.
  • Waste Storage Facility  (313) --$4,776
  • Roof and Covers---(367)--------$13,648


Pasture and Hayland Planting will be for converting row crop land to permanent grass or if a field has less than 50% stand of an established permanent grass.

Limited Resource Farmers, New and Beginning Farmers, Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Veteran Farmer and Rancher may be paid at an increased payment rate.
