The USDA Work Group has identified the resource concerns, by priority, in Henry County as:

  1. Erosion/Soil Quality
  2. Pastureland
  3. Water Quality
  4. Woodland/Forestry and Wildlife Health

Seventy-five percent of county funds will be devoted to Erosion/Soil Quality and the other 25 percent of county funds will be devoted to Pastureland. Applications requesting practices for Pastureland that are a system must be installed before payment. A system is a specific set of practices that are related to the conservation concern. An example could be: Well, Pipeline, and Water Facility. If all Erosion/Soil Quality and Pastureland applications get funded then the 3rd Resource Concern that will receive the remaining funds will be Water Quality. If all Erosion/Soil Quality, Pastureland, and Water Quality applications get funded the 4th Resource Concern will receive the remaining funds will be Woodland/Forestry and Wildlife Health.  Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points until all funds are obligated. Applications will be batched and ranked after the cut-off date of October 17, 2014.  Any applications filed later than this date will be considered in the next pool of funding (if additional funds become available). Additional batching dates will be specified if need.

Limited conservation practices are as follows:

  • Cover Crop/Strip-Till – $5674 limit, 1 year limit per participant

Henry County will use the Alabama NRCS state approved EQIP Practice and Payment Schedule.

Limited Resource Farmers, New and Beginning Farmers, and Socially Disadvantaged Farmers will be paid at an increased payment rate.
