Legumes for Resource Conservation Programs

Legumes enhance conservation tillage systems, improve soil quality, reduce nitrogen requirements on pasture and cropland, enhance wildlife habitat, and reduce soil erosion on cropland and critical areas. Perennial native legumes included in native seed mixtures increase species diversity, restore land condition, and enhance wildlife habitat. The Plant Materials Program develops legumes for conservation tillage, wildlife habitat, pasture, hay and rangeland, and  disturbed site rehabilitation.
