Rhode Island USDA employees exceed food donation goal

Rhode Island USDA staff with food donated to the RI Food Bank.

Rhode Island USDA Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources Conservation Service employees rallied to donate 675 pounds of food to the Rhode Island Food Bank as part of the annual Feds Feed Families food drive. The donation surpassed previous years’ efforts; in 2017, the RI offices in Warwick collectively donated over 450 pounds of food.

Conservation showcased at 2018 Intertribal Food Sovereignty Summit

NRCS leaders joined three generations of the Spears family for a tour of Crandall Minacommuck Farm.

USDA leadership joined tribal leaders from across continent at the Intertribal Food Sovereignty Summit, August 21-23, 2018 at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum in Ledyard, Connecticut. The event highlighted indigenous food landscapes from forest, farm, and ocean through workshops, panel discussions, exhibits, entertainment and meals. The three-day conference culminated with a conservation tour at Crandall Minacommuck Farm, the Narragansett tribal farm in nearby Westerly, Rhode Island.
