Notice of Availability of Draft Plan – EIS, Pocasset River Flood Mitigation Project

The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA – NRCS), with assistance from the Northern Rhode Island Conservation District (NRICD) and in cooperation with the City of Cranston and the Town of Johnston as the project sponsors, announces the availability of the Draft Watershed Plan – Environmental Impact Statement (Draft Plan – EIS) to improve fish and wildlife habitat, protect watershed conditions, and reduce damages associated with flooding in the City of Cranston and the Town of Johnston within the floodplain of the Pocasset River. These improvements may be partially funded through the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act of 1954 (PL 83-566).

The proposed project is located within the Pocasset River watershed in the Town of Johnston and the City of Cranston. The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Council on Environmental Quality’s regulations at 40 CFR Parts 1500 – 1508 require an evaluation of potential environmental impacts associated with Federal projects and actions with input from the public. NRCS has reviewed the potential impacts of the project and released a Draft Plan-EIS.

You are invited to provide comments on the Draft Plan-EIS.
